New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson to Visit in June
As part of a nine country swing through Europe and the Middle East, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson will be in Israel for 36 hours, June 14-15. During his visit he will tour the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, meet for lunch with senior Israeli business leaders (being held in cooperation with the AMCHAM) as well as have a series of private meetings with the Prime Minister and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Industry, Trade & Labor. Portions of the visit are being coordinated by EDI in its role as the regional representative of the New Mexico Economic Development Department
Merage Foundation Founder/President Paul Merage to Visit in June
Paul Merage, the Founder and President of the Merage Foundation for US-Israel Trade will visit Israel at the end of June along with the Foundation’s Executive Director, Marshall Kaplan. This visit is a follow up to the successful week long Merage Forums held in June 2007 in Tel Aviv which identified a number of weaknesses in the graduate educational system in Israel. The Foundation will use the visit to explore and develop new initiatives. To date, the Foundation has hosted 175 Israeli executives for its two-week Executive Leadership Program held three times a year in Irvine, California. The visit is being coordinated by EDI in its role as the local liaison of the Fondation.
EDI Exhibits at ILSI-BioMed Israel 2008
EDI, in its role as administrator of the American States Offices Association in Israel, operated the US pavilion at the annual ILSI-BioMed Exhibition and Conference in Tel Aviv, May 27-29. Exhibiting in the pavilion were Pennsylvania and Oklahoma, both states whose trade and investment interests EDI represents in this region, along with Florida, Ohio and New York. The annual show grew in size once again, this year encompassing two venues next door to each other, the David Intercontinental Hotel and the Dan Panorama Hotel, and included the Stem Cell Conference as well.
Oklahoma Investment Seminar Successful
Oklahoma sponsored an “Invest in Oklahoma” seminar at the Carlton Hotel in Tel Aviv on Monday, May 26th. Participating in the conference were senior representatives of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce who came to Israel specifically for this event. Dessie Apostolova, Director of International Programs, and James Johnson, Site Selection Manager for the Department both made presentations. Dr. Avraham Ortal, VP International Business Development for KMN Holdings (Israel), also spoke describing the company’s experience operating the aerospace firm Limco, situated in Tulsa, which they had taken over two years ago. The Conference was organized by EDI in its role as the regional representative of the Department
Illinois Seminar Held in Tel Aviv
Illinois held a “Meet Illinois” seminar and dinner at the Carlton Hotel in Tel Aviv on Sunday evening, May 25th. Participating in the conference were representatives of a number of Illinois firms, including Baxter Health Care, as well as members of the Chicago law firm Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione. Presenting as well was the Executive Director of iBio and the Assistant VP for Technical Development from the Chicago campus of the University of Illinois. The program was organized by EDI in its role as the regional representative of the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity in cooperation with the America-Israel Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Chicago.
Orange County YPO holds meeting with MK Avishai Braverman
Former Ben Gurion University of the Negev President and now MK Avishai Braverman had a private meeting at the Knesset in Jerusalem on May 15th with representatives of the Orange County (California) Chapter of the Young President’s Organization. The delegation was composed of 35 chapter members and was led by Ygal and Coby Sonenshine. EDI, in its role as Israeli Liaison Office for the Merage Foundation for US-Israel Trade arranged the meeting, given the fact that the Foundation is headquartered in Orange County as well.
EDI Visits Oklahoma, New Mexico, Delaware and Georgia in May
Associate Director Seth Vogelman made a four state swing through the US in May to meet export oriented companies in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Georgia and Delaware. During the visit he made a major presentation at the World Trade Center in Wilmington, DE and spoke, as well, with smaller groups in the other locations. EDI represents the interests of all four of these states in this region.
