EDI Organizes Visit of Wisconsin Gov Doyle
The week of November 15th saw the visit to Israel of a Wisconsin Trade Mission headed by Gov. Jim Doyle. The Governor was joined by the Cabinet Secretaries of Commerce, Agriculture and Work Force Development as well as 30 other members representing the commercial, academic and government sectors in the state. During the visit the Governor met with Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu as well as a number of other government officials. US Ambassador James Cunningham hosted a reception in the Governor’s honor at the Ambassadorial Residence in Herzlia and, in the course of the week, the commercial participants met with any number of potential business partners in Israel. EDI was responsiblfe for organizing and administering the mission during the week the participants were “in country.”
Oklahoma Agricultural Mission Visits Israel
During the first week of November a group of five business people from the agriculture sector in Oklahoma visited Israel. The group was headed by former Oklahoma State Sen. Bruce Price and visited under the auspices of the Oklahoma Israel Exchange (OKIE). During the week the group met with agrotech companies and agencies around the country to determine how best to use Israel’s crop maximizing technology to the advantage of Oklahoma firms. EDI, in its role as representing OKIE and the Oklahoma Department of Commerce in Israel, organized and administered the mission during their visit.
EDI Hosts World Economic Attaches at an Economic Briefing
On November 10th at the Green House of the Faculty Club at Tel Aviv University, EDI hosted a number of economic attaches of various European and other countries stationed in Israel. The breakfast event featured a presentation on the Israeli economy by noted financial analyst Yaakov Fisher, President of I-Biz. The purpose of the meeting was to both meet these representatives and make them aware of the services which EDI provides to their counterparts from other countries. Participants included representatives of Brazil, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, and Spain.
EDI President Participates in Israel Day at the New York Stock Exchange
The New York Stock Exchange marked their annual Israel Day event on December 2nd and hosted a delegation of Israeli business people which included EDI President Sherwin Pomerantz. The delegation heard a presentation about the Exchange from its Deputy Director, rang the opening bell at 9:30 AM to mark the beginning of the trading day and heard a presentation, as well, by James Tisch, CEO of Loews Corp. A luncheon hosted by Morgan Stanley at their New York Headquarters followed. The event was part of a two day program on the topic, with the second day on December 3rd devoted to the challenges and opportunities presented by the US-Israel commercial relationship. Israel’s Ambassador to the US, Michael Oren opened the second day’s program and Israel’s Minister of Infrastructure, Uzi Landau, was present as well. Chemi Peres, CEO of Pitango Venture Capital and Chairman of the Israel-America Chamber of Commerce along with Danny Gillerman, former Israeli Ambassador to the UN headed the delegation.
Delaware Delegation to Visit Israel in January
Delaware Court of Chancery Justice Jack Jacobs joined by Ben Strauss, President of the Delaware Bar Association and Jeffrey Bullock, Delaware’s Secretary of State, will head a delegation to Israel during the week of January 3rd. The group will also include a number of Delaware companies in Israel to explore commercial relationships with local firms. During the visit the delegation will meet with a number of local law firms to hear their issues and concerns related to corporate registration in the US. Justice Jacobs will also conduct a number of seminars for local law students. EDI in its role as the local representative of the Delaware Department of State will organize and administer the mission.
