EDI's President Sherwin Pomerantz and Enterprise Saskatchewan CEO Chris Dekker sign a monumental MOU.

On Wednesday, December 15, 2010, the CEO of Enterprise Saskatchewan Mr. Chris Dekker and the Commercial Counselor at the Canadian Embassy in Israel Ms. Bonny Berger visited EDI for the historic signing of an MOU between EDI and Enterprise Saskatchewan.

The MOU marks the beginning of a pilot program in 2011-2012, designed to generate foreign direct investment leads in Israel for Saskatchewan so as to assist in job creation within the Province.  The relationship between the two entities developed as a result of the visit of EDI’s President, Sherwin Pomerantz, to Regina in October 2010.

The event was also attended by EDI’s Vice President Ben Dansker, Associate Director Seth Vogelman, Business Events Coordinator Rebecca Raab, Marcom & PR Binyamin Tjong-Alvares and Business Development Associate Michael Platt.

Enterprise Saskatchewan is a special agency of the provincial government responsible for economic development.  It was designed to overcome barriers to growth and to find or create new opportunities to keep Saskatchewan among the most competitive and attractive business climates in Canada—and the world.

EDI will provide the agency its investment promotion expertise based on 20 years of experience in the development of technology-based foreign direct investment opportunities for locations in North America. The Canadian Province of Saskatchewan is almost the size of Texas, with a population of just over one million people.  The province boasted GDP of $36.9 billion in 2009, the largest share of which derived from the mining and oil and gas extraction sector.  Other major sectors include agriculture, forestry, fishing, hunting, real estate, rental and leasing.  Saskatchewan is centrally located in North America with excellent transportation services to Canadian, American and offshore markets.

This is the first time in EDI’s history that it will be representing a Canadian province.
