Merage Fellows Gathering with Pitango's Rami Kalish
Merage Fellows gathered for an informative and stimulating evening with Rami Kalish, the Managing General Partner of Pitango Venture Capital on Monday January 17, 2011 at the Carlton Hotel in Tel Aviv.
Rami discussed his activities at Pitango, as well as venture capital in Israel in general. He envisions a bright future for Israeli high tech in the global technology market, particularly in the areas of social networks, mobile applications and cloud computing. Accordingly, he highlighted the Far East as a key opportunity for Israeli companies. He also raised major challenges including Israel's education system and Israeli populations who generally do not participate in the workforce.
Rami Kalish has extensive experience in venture capital and international management in the high-tech environment. Rami has been active in the field of venture capital since 1992, and has served as Managing General Partner of Pitango Venture Capital since that time.
Prior to founding Pitango (originally under the name Polaris), Rami garnered rich managerial experience at high-technology firms in the U.S., Europe and Israel.
He previously held sales and marketing positions at IBM and senior executive roles at Orbotech (NASDAQ:ORBK), a leading manufacturer of capital equipment for the PCB and semiconductor industries. Throughout the years Rami has served on the Board of Directors of numerous companies that were acquired or went public, among them are:ITXC (previously NASDAQ: ITXC ), CardGuard (previously SWF:LIFE ), VocalTec (NASDAQ: CALL), Retalix (NASDAQ:RTLX), Optibase (NASDAQ: OBAS), RADWARE (NASDAQ: RDWR), Optonol (acquired by Alcon).

He earned a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering and Information Science from the Technion Institute of Technology.
Rami is also involved in community work; among his activities he is member of the advisory boards of the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) Yazamut-Bronica Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center, The Merage Foundation for U.S.-Israel Trade and The educational Center for Tolerance and Peace of the Hebrew Reali School in Haifa.
