Trade Promotion Reachout Effort to Western Canada 

EDI will join with some of its other state representative colleagues for three days of meetings with the western Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan, Alberta and Birtish Columbia to encourage their trade development directors to establish representative outposts in various markets worlwide.   These three provinces have recently formed a consortium to cooperate on this effort and EDI’s outreach is meant to capitalize on that interest. 

EDI to Participate in Virginia International Trade Day 

EDI will be representated at Virginia’s International Trade Conference on October 14th in Richmond.  The gathering will bring together hundreds of Virginia companies interested in exploring export opportunities worldwide.   The event is sponsored by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership which uses EDI as its consultants for Israel and Turkey. 

Washington and New York to Host Bilateral Business Development Events 

In mid-October the US Chamber of Commerce will kick off its US-Israel Business Promotion Initiative with an all day event at their headquarters in Washington DC.  The event will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the US-Israel Free Trade Agreement as well.  The following day the Israel-America Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the America-Israel Friendship League will host a day long event in New York to highligh business devleopment between the two countries.   EDI President Sherwin Pomerantz will attend both events on behalf of the company. 

Making the Circuit Around Pennsylvania EDI Associate Director Seth Vogelman will be in Pennsylvania at the end of October to spend a week meeting with companies their interested in increasing their exports to this region.  EDI represented the state’s Office of International Business Devleopment in this region.  

EDI Meets with Naomi Wiegler of US Department of Commerce 

EDI President Sherwin Pomerantz, in his role as Chair of the American State Offices Association, met with Naomi Wiegler, International Trade Specialist for the Middle East at the US Department of Commerce in Washington.  Ms. Wiegler was in Israel for one of her regular visits to discuss barriers to increasing US Exports to Israel.  The purpose of the meeting with EDI was to look at other obstacles to trade that the USDOC might not be aware of, from the perspective of the US state representatives in Israel. 

Welcome for the New Deputy Senior Commercial Officer 

EDI Associate Director Seth Vogelman represented EDI at the welcoming breakfast for the new Deputy Senior Commercial Officer at the US Commerical Service in Tel Aviv, Rafael Patino.   Mr. Patino joins the Tel Aviv staff from a prior posting in Washington but has broad international experience as well.  

US Embassy’s New Deputy Chief of Mission Welcomed 

EDI was represented at the US Ambassdor’s reception for the Embassy’s newly installed Deputy Chief of Mission, Thomas Goldberger.  The event, held in mid-September at the Ambassador’s residence in Herzlia Pituach, was attended by government, commercial and community leaders from across the Israeli spectrum.
