EDI, in its role as the representatives here of Delaware, Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania, was represented by its President, Sherwin Pomerantz and its Trade Director, Seth Vogelman. Also represented were the states of Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New York and Ohio along with Fairfax County, Virginia.
During the meeting the Ambassador spoke about what else could be done by the state representatives to meet President Obama’s goal of doubling exports from the US to the world over the next five years and a number of issues were placed on the table. In the case of Israel a suggestion was made to re-examine the existing free trade agreement between the two countries, as the original one is now 25 years old and was based on an old model of such agreements. There was also a fair amount of discussion about how to increase the number of US company marketing people willing to travel to the region to explore new sales possibilities.
Also participating in the event were Jonathan Heimer, Senior Commercial Officer at the US Commercial Service in Tel Aviv; Thomas Goldberg, Deputy Chief of Mission; and David Burnett, Minister-Counselor for Economic Affairs at the US Embassy in Tel Aviv.
